AS/NZS 4284 – Testing of Building Facades is an Australian/New Zealand Standard that establishes methods for evaluating the performance of building façade systems under simulated environmental loads. It covers structural behaviour, air infiltration and water penetration, with optional testing for seismic movement, seal degradation and building maintenance unit (BMU) restraints. It applies to both laboratory prototype testing and on-site façade testing.
For high-rise residential and commercial developments, façade performance is critical to building durability, weather resistance and occupant comfort. Testing under AS/NZS 4284 helps project teams assess whether a representative façade assembly can withstand specified wind pressures, control water ingress and maintain structural integrity under defined test conditions.
